The Dallas Morning News reports that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will be patrolling Dallas restaurants and a theme park today in a truck that will blast “dying animals’ cries.”
PETA’s press release gives the details of today’s tour. The truck, “Hell on Wheels,” is designed to look like it is loaded with pigs squished inside pens (of course, no real animals are involved).
The truck will blast sounds of dying animals while driving around a number of restaurants, along with a subliminal message every 10 seconds promoting veganism.
From the PETA press release:
Dalls [sic] – Diners at Terry Black’s Barbecue and Easter shoppers considering going into Honey Baked Ham stores are in for an earful tomorrow when “Hell on Wheels”-PETA’s hyper-realistic pig transport truck that looks as if it contains real pigs on their way to slaughter-will bombard them with actual recorded sounds of the animals’ panicked screams, along with a subliminal message every 10 seconds suggesting that people go vegan.
PETA explains the timing of this tour is meant to coincide with Easter, which is April 20, an ironic date. This time of year, PETA explains, is all about “celebrating life.” However, many Christians apparently feast on hams, which is why Terry Black’s in Deep Ellum (3205 Main Street) and Honey Baked Ham are on the route.
PETA goes on to explain in the release that pigs, like humans, dream when they sleep and enjoy listening to music and they can also show empathy for others.
Hell on Wheels’ final stop is at the Peppa the Pig Theme Park in North Richland Hills, which is protested because while the show portrays animals as friends, not food, the park serves meat.
