National Taco Day is Tuesday, Oct. 7. We have our own favorite tacos, but just in time, Yelp released its list of the Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025.
The distinction that makes Yelp’s top 100 roundups different from usual “best” lists is that Yelp ranks restaurants based on Yelp data and community reviews. This year, California had the highest number of taco places in the U.S., followed by Texas, Arizona, and Hawaii.
Texas has nine spots on the list, one of which is from Dallas:
- No. 3 Paprika ATX in Austin
- No. 16 Mahi Nic from South Padre Island
- No. 30 Taqueria & Tamaleria Nuevo Leon in Carrollton
- No. 65 Cuantos Tacos in Austin
- No. 67 CJ’s Tacos in Austin
- No. 80 Cinco De Mayo Taqueria in Spring (north of Houston)
- No. 84 La Cruderia in Houston
- No. 85 Tacos La Catrina in Austin
- No. 93 Tacos Doña Lena in Houston

Taqueria & Tamaleria Nuevo Leon has five locations across the metro area: two in Richardson, one in Garland, one in Murphy, and the award-winning location in Carrollton.
The family-run business offers a traditional assortment of Mexican cuisine. Monday through Friday, it runs a $0.99 breakfast taco deal from 7-11 a.m. when you buy two or more tacos. For taco Tuesday, freshly carved trompo tacos are $0.99 all day long.
When you have scratch-made food at nostalgic prices, it’s no wonder the spot has rave Yelp reviews. The other side of the business is tamales, which come in over a dozen different varieties, including a vegan option. When you get your $0.99 tacos, make sure you get a half or full dozen, too.
Birrieria Familia Castro in North Hollywood, California, was ranked No. 1 on the list for its closely guarded birria family recipe. One of NYC’s original beef birria spots, Birria-Landia in Brooklyn, came in at No. 2 on the list; and No. 3, Paprika ATX in Austin, was so good for some diners that they said it was unfair to all the other taco trucks in Austin.
Yelp also expanded on what was trending in the taco sphere as of late, and birria is still king (no one’s complaining). New on the radar is something called a “bat taco” or “vampire taco,” which comes in tortillas that are griddled until they’re charred, chewy and curled up like bat wings, then folded.
They’re a popular street food from Sinaloa, Mexico, and are gaining popularity, particularly in the LA area. That’s right up our alley. Dallas, catch up, would ya?
