Where: Bavarian Grill, 221 W. Parker Road in Plano
When: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
What: $1 off select drafts, $2.75 domestic longnecks, $3.25 Löwenbräu Originals, 95-cent snack plates in the Biergarten with each half-liter beer.
Why: Because Addison isn’t the only suburb where you can celebrate your German pride. And because, after winning the title outright in 2009, the grill was recently voted second in the Best German Restaurant in America contest. Most importantly, though, it’s Hophead– and Best Of Dallas-approved.
The drink specials are a nice touch, but the real attractions are biergarten dishes like the tangy goulash and the crispy meatloaf-ish frikadelle. As if you needed more encouragement to drink delicious German brews like the Weihenstephaner Weissbock Vitus, you can get one for 95 cents for each half-liter bottle you order. “A liter a day keeps the doctor away,” as the Bavarian proverb goes, so have at least a couple–for your health’s sake, of course.
After stein hour ends, on most nights you can move from the patio to the dining room for pub trivia or live jazz or polka music.
