Last week, Celestial Beerworks announced a collaboration with its "Fort Worth besties Martin House Brewing" to give us "Fred Thirst," a crisp, clean, juicy American IPA loaded with Citra and Mosaic.
It seems the staff at Celestial Beerworks punched their ticket to "Loserville" when the nu metal band Limp Bizkit "partied like it was 1999" last August and felt inspired to give all of us something to chug this season.
The name is an obvious tribute to the band's lead singer, Fred Durst. The can's wrap sports a pattern of the front man's circa-2000s look with a baggy black Echo tee and backward red hat as he throws up a hand sign that resembles Spock's Vulcan salute.
The Celestial Beerworks team confirmed with us that it's not the "shocker" symbol despite what other media outlets have reported.
"I know y'all be loving this sip right here!" Celestial Beerworks shared in its announcement before going into tasting notes: "We get flavors of sticky pine resin, orange rind, Tropicana juice and lemon hard candy. It’s an easy drinker and keeps you coming back for more with every sip, but at 7%, keep an eye on how many cans you crush."
Media outlets have reported that it's not a national phenomenon because the brewery didn't receive Limp Bizkit's blessing before brewing. As it turns out, it's because of Texas' strict beer laws. Beer can't be shipped outside or within the state of Texas to consumers.
The band happens to be dealing with bigger legal matters, such as a $200 million lawsuit against the world's largest music company filed last October. Limp Bizkit alleged that the record company Universal Music Group had “designed and implemented royalty software and systems that were deliberately designed to conceal artists’ royalties and keep those profits for itself," reported Rolling Stone.
Meanwhile, Limp Bizkit has been the supporting act for Metallica's ongoing M72 World Tour. We don't think they're going to be concerned with a "7% West Coast IPA Snacky Poo" anytime soon.
Right now, the "Fred Thirst" is available only at the Celestial Beerworks Taproom here in Dallas and at celestialtogo.com.
Despite the star's questionable antics, it has sold out online, so be on the lookout for a restock or pop into the brewery at 2530 Butler St.
