David Bowie Tops the Dallas Independent Record Store Charts

This is not your everyday Billboard chart. Each week, we'll tell you which bands are selling in the fine record shops in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, where we consumers of music have impeccable taste.

Consensus arose at Good Records and CD Source as David Bowie takes the lead in top selling albums. Lance Price, CD Source owner, was enthusiastic about the immense amount of sales at his store. "This past week belonged to David Bowie," says Price. "His album with the bonus tracks sold twice as much as number two Eric Clapton; three times as much if you include the regular version. It's his first studio album in ten years. We have gotten nothing but wonderful feedback from customers who have purchased it."

Mark Church, sales associate at Good Records, concurs with Price and replies with, "Bowie at Number one...enough said."

Also in the running last week at CD Source and Good Records is Sound City Players album from the debut movie. "SOUND CITY, the film, was conceived by Dave Grohl after purchasing the legendary custom-built Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year," says Price. "Many legendary bands have recorded at Sound City. Grohl's connection to Sound City began with Nirvana's Nevermind which was also recorded there. The new tracks on this album are an eclectic list of collaborators; including Paul McCartney, Grohl's former Nirvana and current Foo Fighters bandmates, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor, Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Lee Ving of Fear, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford of Rage Against The Machine and more. The focus is on the human element of musicianship and recording. Personally I love that concept having grown up listening to music that isn't overly synthesized."
