The annual Ice Age reenactment in Dallas is upon us. As we all know by now, snowstorms in Texas are unpredictable, but America’s favorite weatherman and local celebrity, Pete Delkus, has it in his forecast, so it feels likely. And if you won’t take it from Delkus, maybe Gov. Greg Abbott’s declaration of a state of emergency and Sen. Ted Cruz’s hightailing it out of the state are enough.
Even if we do get snow, there’s no telling how much, but as a precautionary measure, and with the memories of 2021’s fatal Storm Uri still fresh on the brain, many venues have already begun canceling weekend activities.
It’s a bummer, but camping out at home in the worst-case scenario, even without power or running water (God forbid), beats joining a hundred-car pile-up on Interstate 35.
There have been a few cancellations, but most of the local events this weekend have already been rescheduled. If you had something planned, it’s a good idea to check the organizer’s social media pages. Here’s the abridged list of events that were canceled but have already been rebooked.
Double D’s Anniversary Party
This design district bar, one of the best clubs in Dallas, was planning a blow-out party to celebrate its 4-year anniversary. The weather had other plans, so no tracks will spin this weekend, but the beat will go on Feb. 7, and you’re sure to find us freezing our asses off in the line sure to wrap around the building, just not this Saturday.
The Rumble Review at the Cicada
The Cicada almost went out of business last year, and we’re sure glad it didn’t, because then we wouldn’t have the Rumble Review, a burlesque show with a live band. The show has been rescheduled a few months out to March 20. But that just gives us something to look forward to.
Late Night at the Museum at the Dallas Museum of Art
This Friday’s iteration of Late Night at the Museum, part of a music-forward after-hours series the Dallas Museum of Art produces, has been canceled and rescheduled for Feb. 6. This one hits especially hard, as two of your Observer arts staffers already had tickets and were eagerly planning outfits. But this just gives everyone more time to buy tickets for the event. The more the merrier. See you there.
DEXD of NITE Cemetery DJ Set
In the off chance this was on your radar, the event has been rescheduled. The somewhat underground, but ticketed, show, hosted near a cemetery somewhere in Oak Cliff, with the official location announced later, is moving to Feb. 1. The new date might even be more fitting, because it’ll be a full moon. Perhaps this was a sign from the stars.
