Friday night we went the art route and hit up AFI Live Wire and Hal Samples' gallery opening, but come Saturday we were all about live music. Also, the Mars Volta ticket winner is named after the jump.

Collin Herring at The Cavern

We caught Fort Worth's Collin Herring and Austin Collins from Austin (slightly amusing?) at the lower Greenville Avenue club Saturday night. Reviewer Darryl Smyers was surprised by the large and boisterous crowd at the late night show. He also noted some similarities between Collins and Steve Earle. Seriously.

Trey Johnson at David Allor Benefit at Meridian Room

There was such a good vibe at the Meridian Room Saturday as the benefit show for bartender David Allor spilled out into the parking lot. Trey Johnson (Sorta) and Rose County Fair highlighted the musical portion of the night.

Mars Volta Tickets?

As promised, we've got a winner for the Mars Volta ticket contest. Travis Behl is the lucky man. Thanks to all who entered, and know we'll have some tickets up for grabs again later this week for another show. Oooooooo. -- Chelsea Ide
