Whatever your opinion on Dallas’ many neighborhoods, there is little question that Deep Ellum is at a distinct logistical advantage. No where else boasts as many bars and restaurants in such a small area, and when a bunch of them are humming at once the effect is very it’s-all-happening.
It was all happening this weekend, mostly thanks to Oliver Peck and Sailor Jerry’s Elm Street Tattoo and Music Festival. But some of the non-official venues had intriguing weekends as well, most notably the area’s newest resident, Twilite Lounge. On Saturday, they had New Orleans jazz with David Washburn. And last night, they hosted a free set by Old 97’s front man Rhett Miller. Photographer Nate “Igor” Smith was there — some of his photos of the performance are here.
