Dennis Gonzalez just passed along this mini-documentary on La Rondalla, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center’s free guitar program for kids ages 11-15, of which he’s the Dean. It’s been going on since 2010, and is aimed, much like next week’s Girls Rock Dallas camp, at those who might not be able to afford classes otherwise.

Also, with teachers like Gonzalez’s sons Aaron and Stefan, Kenny Withrow of Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, Steel Bearing Hand’s Wyatt Burton, Ronald Shannon Jackson collaborator Gregg Prickett and jazz keyboardist Alan Palmer, it’s nothing short of inspiring that these kids are getting such a first-class education. There need to be more of these types of classes across Dallas and, in fact, that’s the point Gonzalez makes in the film.
