Yella Beezy's trial on murder-for-hire charges is scheduled to begin Feb. 2, 2026, his attorney, Toby Shook, said Monday.
The hearing to announce the multi-platinum recording artist's trial date was supposed to happen Monday, but the judge's absence pushed it back to Friday. In the meantime, Shook said he and state prosecutors have signed an agreement setting the trial for February.
The 33-year-old multi-platinum Dallas rapper, born Markies Conway, was arrested in Dallas County on March 20 on a warrant issued for his arrest in the 2020 killing of rapper Mo3. Prosecutors allege Beezy hired Kewon White and Devin Maurice Brown to murder Mo3, born Melvin Noble, in exchange for payment.
He was released from Dallas County Jail on March 28 after his bond was reduced from $2 million to $750,000. His release conditions were strict, including GPS monitoring and home confinement.
Beezy requested a bond modification in April, seeking permission to attend his son’s football games. Judge Chika Anyiam denied the request.
Shook filed another modification proposal on Aug. 4, seeking permission for Beezy to leave home for work. Shook argued that the restrictions hindered Beezy’s ability to secure lucrative career opportunities, causing financial strain while posing no threat to public safety.
“Everyone needs to work a little,” Shook told the Observer.
Beezy’s first public appearance after being released took place on March 28 at the 11:11 nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona. The court approved the hosting engagement as it was consistent with Beezy’s profession as a recording artist. Shook said the new request is for opportunities outside of music.
“This is going to give him more,” Shook said. “We’ll see if it works, but to be able to do different stuff, possibly. Not just concerts, but other stuff.”
Friday’s announcement hearing will address the rapper’s motion to modify his bond restrictions. Beezy’s February trial will follow Brown's murder trial, set to begin in early November.
Beezy has begun shifting his focus back to his music, releasing videos like “The 1” featuring Trapboy Freddy. He was also a topic of discussion online as one of the biggest rappers from Texas, which caused passionate debates.
"I'm not the greatest but I'ma 1 of the greatest," he clarified. "It's a bunch off ppl in front from UGK, Geto Boyz, Z-Ro, Keke, Devin the Dude, Fat Pat, Flip, Slim, DSR, Pookie and Lucci, Gator Main, Big Chief ... that pioneer the Texas sound. To be mentioned with the great is a blessing in itself. I'ma student of the game."
A pretrial hearing for his murder-for-hire trial has been set for Jan. 9, 2026.
