Rap star Yella Beezy was arrested on Thursday, March 20, and booked in Dallas County Jail after a warrant was issued on the charge of capital murder.

The 33-year-old platinum-selling artist, whose real name is Markies D. Conway, has been accused by a Dallas County grand jury of being involved in the murder of rapper Mo3. Mo3 was shot and killed by two gunmen on Nov. 11, 2020, while going northbound on Interstate 35. The grand jury indictment claims that Yella Beezy hired gunman Kewon White to murder Mo3, real name Melvin Noble.

The warrant for Yella Beezy’s arrest was issued on March 18. The rapper was arrested by Dallas PD’s Eric Barnes at 4:54 p.m. on March 20. The case’s grand jury referral states that Yella Beezy employed Kewon White "to murder" Mo3 "for remuneration and the promise of remuneration."

White was convicted in the killing of Mo3 in federal court in May 2022. White would be sentenced to 105 months in federal prison after also pleading guilty to gun charges. The other gunman, Devin Maurice Brown, Jr., 27, accepted a plea deal and was released from federal prison on Feb. 16.

Brown claimed that he killed Mo3 because he was angry after seeing a video of the rapper with his girlfriend. Brown and White tracked Mo3 for an entire day and overnight before shooting him.

According to court documents, Yella Beezy will appear for arraignment in Dallas County’s Criminal District Court No. 3 with Judge Audra Riley presiding. If convicted, the rapper could face execution or life imprisonment.

Yella Beezy shared a pleasant message on his Instagram stories about making money after his arrest on Thursday. With a link that connects to a Telegram account, the message reads: “It’s been a solid month. Shoutout to my guy who been making me rich.”

The known rivalry between Yella Beezy and Mo3 became public in 2017 as both artists ascended to rap superstardom. Both artists had spoken about the feud in various interviews. The rivalry escalated following Mo3's exclusion from a 2019 concert headlined by Yella Beezy, Future, and Juice WRLD at The Star in Frisco. For years, Mo3 claimed his exclusion and arrest at the concert (for an active warrant) were ordered by Yella Beezy. Yella Beezy denied all of Mo3’s claims about the incident.

Mo3 also claimed that Yella Beezy and his associates often hindered his ascension to superstardom.

Mo3’s mother, Nichole Noble, reacted to Yella Beezy’s arrest with a message on her Instagram Story. “Justice For My Baby!!!!” she wrote.

In a 2024 interview with Shawn Cotton from SayCheese, Yella Beezy said he had no involvement in the killing of Mo3. The rapper asserted that the conflicts between them were instigated by Mo3 and his associates, and he referred to Mo3's fate as a consequence of street culture.

“Make it seem like it’s beef, or it’s going to be tension between us,” Yella told Cotton. “Because that’s their [Mo3 manager] Rainwater motto. They supposed to be the ‘character’ role. But when you play that character role in the streets, that’s not the same thing. These dudes really in the streets, really gon' live like it. So if you talking or living a certain way … you keep knocking or you voting, you gonna get licked.

"That’s where I be coming at with it. Like, bro, just leave me alone. I don’t say nothing. I don’t disrespect. I done seen this man’s family members out. I done seen people around him, everything. It makes no sense for me … because I ain’t had nothing to do with it to begin with, and then, like I say, it be different if I was on that muthafucka trolling with him. Of course, I hate how the situation panned out, but I didn’t start that shit.”

The latest arrest follows a 2024 lawsuit involving Yella Beezy and Mo3's manager, Brandon "Rainwater" Ringwater, after an alleged assault outside a Dallas strip club in January 2020. Rainwater was awarded $325,000 in damages.

Yella Beezy recently began promoting his upcoming album, Stuck In My Ways, which was executive produced by Lil Wayne and is led by their collaboration “Hit.” Yella received two platinum certifications from the RIAA last week for his breakout hits “That’s On Me” and “That’s On Me Remix,” featuring T.I., Trapboy Freddy, 2 Chainz, Boosie Badazz, Young Jeezy and Rich The Kid.

Yella Beezy's hearing schedule is unavailable. The rapper’s management team could not be reached for comment.
