Dallas Sounds Off After Truck With Machine Gun Spotted on I-35

Driving in Dallas can be dangerous, but this is taking things too far. Probably. At least social media can have a some fun with it.

For some, driving along Interstate 35 south of downtown is a challenge. Many of us simply employ a tighter 10-2 grip on the wheel and try our best to navigate the multiple, crowded lanes of busy traffic before we get to where exits for U.S. Highway 75 and Interstate 30 introduce a new level of danger to the proceedings.

One Dallas driver, it seems, takes a more aggressively literal approach to arming for freeway battle… with a machine gun. Mounted in the truck bed. Loaded with what looks like big-ass ammo.

On Monday a Reddit user posted a photo to the r/Dallas subreddit showing a black Dodge Ram pickup truck headed north on what appears to be I-35 just before the Illinois Avenue exit. With the caption “Just another day in Dallas Roads,” the image shows a large, menacing machine gun mounted high in the back of the truck, pointing well above the cab with ribbons of ammo streaming from the gun into the truck bed.

We’re guessing this truck owner meant something different than most of us when we tell a car salesman we want something “fully loaded.”

The comments, as one might guess, were even more hilarious than the startling image itself.

“Y'allqaeda getting ready for the Texanistan insurgency,” one Reddit user quipped. A couple other funny folks replied to that comment, with one writing “Ram tough, for the autoerotic patriotic,” while another added “"But officer, it's my emotional support belt fed machine gun!"

It seems as though one Reddit user, however, isn’t up to date on the relevant psychological studies.

User Scrantonicity_02 remarked, “Someone is compensating for a small gun,” yet earlier this year, a super scientific study conducted by the University of Texas at San Antonio found that guys with big guns are typically satisfied with the size of their penis. Take that, Freud.

This isn’t the first sighting of the black Ram 3500 4x4 with the mounted gun (hello, sentence you didn't think you’d read today probably). A five-second TikTok video of what seems to be the same truck was posted in May 2023, with the caption “only in Texas.”

With more than 61,000 likes and 593 comments on that specific post, it’s clear that this truck is used to grabbing attention. Our favorite TikTok comment suggests the truck driver indeed views I-35 with a fear and reverence that, let’s be honest, is probably warranted, although we tend to choose a different approach.

“Bro thinks he’s in Mad Max,” the user commented.

Indeed, driving in Dallas can all too often feel post-apocalyptic.
