Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.
Looks like KXAS-Channel 5 is making news this a.m. -- at least in Chicago, where both the Sun-Times and Tribune make mention of the Dallas NBC affiliate's new president and general manager, Tom Ehlmann. Why's it a big deal up there? Because Ehlmann's VP and GM at WGN-Channel 9, longtime home of the Chicago Cubs broadcasts, where he's been since moving to Chicago from Houston in 2004.
Says Larry Wert, president of the Central & Western Region for NBC Local Media, of Ehlmann's hire: "He is an innovative leader, who has been a strong competitor in the Chicago market. We're thrilled to have someone of Tom's caliber on our team, returning to Texas to lead our Dallas operations." He starts August 11, and Uncle Barky already has some suggestions. Jane and Mike, act accordingly. --Robert Wilonsky
