In the worst sign yet for his NFL prospect, former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has been dumped as a client by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Tuesday afternoon’s announcement came after the Dallas County District Attorney announced that accusations that Manziel beat his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, in Dallas earlier this year will be presented to a grand jury later this week.

It’s a sad state of affairs that losing a high-profile agent bodes worse for Manziel’s career than a potential domestic violence conviction, but that’s how the NFL goes.

Rosenhaus vowed last Wedneday that he would dump Manziel if the free agent didn’t check himself into treatment in the next five days. When that deadline passed, the agent who stuck with Terrell Owens through all the diva wide receiver’s crazy followed through on his ultimatum. Now Manziel, without a team after being cut by the Cleveland Browns, is also without an agent for the second time this year.

Manziel’s previous agent, Erik Burkhardt, dumped the QB in early February after police reports were released featuring Crowley’s description of an attack she said Manziel committed against her in late January.

According to Crowley, Manziel hit her so hard in the side of the head that she ruptured an ear drum, broke her phone and threatened to kill both Crowley and himself. Manziel eventually talked to Fort Worth police who did not arrest him because they determined that any potential assault would’ve occurred in Dallas County.

After its investigation, the Dallas Police Department turned the misdemeanor assault case against Manziel to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office without charging him on February 25. Thursday, the district attorney will make the case against Manziel to the grand jury, which is expected to make a decision by Monday.

Johnny Football was waived by the Browns on March 11. The former first-round pick has received no significant interest from any other team.
