Kent Fischer at The Dallas Morning News writes that late yesterday, he received “a copy of a document titled ‘RIF worksheet’ dated 10/14 at 8 a.m.” The district, of course, was to begin its layoffs today, but pushed back the so-called reduction in workforce till tomorrow — creating further chaos at schools where teachers have begun packing their desks in advance of the pink slip caused by the district’s $84 million budget shortfall. Fischer writes that after much hand-wringing over the document — should the paper publish it, and, if so, should the names and other personal info be redacted — it decided to go ahead with such an altered version. “Our goal,” he writes, “is to show readers sufficiently the impact layoffs will have at their schools while also protecting the privacy of those about to be fired.” –Robert Wilonsky
