There is a new Texan at the very top of the list. Some might be surprised, given the glut of negative publicity Tesla seems to be living under these days, but indeed, Elon Musk sits atop the Forbes list with an estimated $342 billion fortune.
Some fun celebrity names have joined the billionaire ranks this year. Iconic entertainers, including Bruce Springsteen, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jerry Seinfeld are now a whole new kind of wealthy.
More than 900 billionaires are from the United States, according to the report, and a nice chunk of those behind Musk reside in Texas. Narrowing the search down to North Texas still yields an impressive lot with some well-known names. If you’ve paid any sort of attention to these rankings before, few of the top North Texas billionaires will surprise you since many of these tycoons are longtime A-list, household names around these parts.
The richest person in Dallas-Fort Worth is also the richest woman in the world: Alice Walton, the daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton.
Forbes listed her as the 15th-richest person in the world, with a net worth of $101 billion. Both her place on the rankings as well as her dollars are much higher in 2025 than they were in 2024. It stands to reason that the 75-year-old Walton has that sort of money, as who else would be able to buy a Frank Lloyd Wright home in New Jersey, have it taken apart and transported 1,200 miles so it can avoid flood damage and have it displayed at an Arkansas museum that she had built? Of course, some of Walton’s siblings are near her on the list, so Walmart money makes up a sizable chunk of the list’s highest rungs.
Not that long ago, few North Texans would care much about where Miriam Adelson ranks on this list. But since she bought the majority interest in the Dallas Mavericks from Mark Cuban and allowed her son-in-law to trade away our sweet Slovenian prince, it’s worth noting that although she isn't a local resident, Adelson sits high on the billionaire’s list, but behind Walton, at No. 56 with $32.1 billion.
But back to the women who live in the area, Elaine Marshall, who, with her sons, owns a percentage of Koch Industries, is No. 67 on the list with $28.3 billion. Lyndal Stephens Greth and her family follow at No. 77 with $25.8 billion, thanks to her leadership over Endeavor Energy Resources.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his family are ranked No. 187 globally. His famous football team is reportedly valued at $10 billion, but his net worth is $16.6 billion, up about $3 billion from last year, even though his team missed the playoffs last season.
Alice Walton’s cousin, Ann Walton-Kroenke, sits at No. 89 with $12.6 billion. This member of the Walton clan not only has Walmart family money but is married to Stan Kroenke, a professional sports titan who is No. 113 on the billionaires list.
Local financial powers such as bank owner Andrew Beal (No. 199 with $12 billion), Ken Fisher of Fisher Investments (No. 224 with $11.2 billion), and Omni Hotels owner Robert K. Rowling (No. 353 with $8.5 billion) all retain their Top 10 in Texas designation from 2024.
A pair of men with legendary last names round out the 10 richest billionaires in Texas from the Forbes list. Kelcy Warren, who founded Energy Transfer, was also a prominent force in creating Klyde Warren Park in Dallas is on the list at No. 464 with $7.1 billion. Ray Hunt, the son of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt, is listed at No. 498 with $6.8 billion.
Of course, there are plenty more than 10 Dallas area billionaires on the list. Check out the other North Texans with a whole lot of zeros in their net worth:
