The Observer's editor-in-chief, Patrick Williams, took issue with Crockett's name-calling. In an opinion piece published on Tuesday with the headline "Memo to Rep. Jasmine Crockett: We Love You, But Please STFU," our EIC laid out his thoughts on why he thought Crockett opting for the low road so often trolled on by many prominent Republicans, including President Donald Trump, was a bad look.
In quick fashion, the Observer's social media channels filled up with comments taking the paper to task – more than 450 comments on one Facebook post and more than 650 comments on one Instagram post.
While there were some who liked the article and agreed with its contents, the clear majority of the comments we received for this one article leaned more towards shock and outrage. The vibe check? Readers want Crockett to speak up, and louder.
Below is a sampling of the comments that capture the furor many expressed online. Have an opinion on this you'd like to share with us and the Dallas community? Email [email protected] (and it might get published in our Opinion section).

Dang, do we vote in favor of disabled people too? Alllllll of a sudden we care about how they’re treated? I mean, I’m glad I think, just also very confused 🤦🏻♀️

Tell me yo don’t actually like Black women without saying you don’t like Black women

A memo to DO, we love you but if you can’t recognize that Governor Hotwheels is using his power to roll up the track behind him - hurting the disabled people in our communities, then please ST*U. Politicians are finding their backbones. Jasmine has known where hers is.

Ummm…Abbott has BEEN called that for YEARS by Texans because of the EVIL legislation and decisions he’s made. We Stan Jasmine Crockett and will continue!

Looks like The Dallas observer has been comprised. Another publication trying to appease the far right to gain some favoritism with Trump and his cult.

No she needs to keep it up and say it louder. Now is not the time to shut up. Democrats took the high ground for too long without anything good coming from it. I can’t blame them for giving out some low blows. The time the fix that has passed.

Grow a pair Observer. She was just playing by their playbook. Time to take off the gloves.

No, she's needs to be louder! I'm sick of Democrats being called snowflakes, a good amount of us came from difficult beginnings, I'm sick of Republicans acting like they're tough. We need MORE representatives like her, not afraid to bite back!

Bad take, stop with the "We go high" bullshit. We're in the midst of losing our democracy and you choose to get butthurt over someone taking these asshats down a peg or three.

Democrats want young energetic fighters but only if they stay in line with the woke police 😂. Pathetic! Every second you spend talking about pointless drama is backtracking and delaying your own "best freshman lawmaker". Don't advocate for fighters if you're not willing to get dirty. L take DO

Too bad this "DEI counseling" you speak of can't take place in the state of Texas thanks to the very individual who was mocked.

Kiss off… sometimes you have to play by the rules they made. He has turned our state into the worst place to live for women, LGBTQ and trans folk, education, housing, healthcare. This is the nicest thing he can be called at this point.
