In tiny Wortham, just a ways northwest of Mexia, the fire ladders on two engines from the Teague and Fairfield fire departments were crossed over 3rd and Main street. A flag hung from between them, to honor a hometown son on the way to his final rest. Slain Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, were buried in a small cemetery outside of town Friday, less than a week after they were found murdered in their Forney home.
Authorities kept reporters away from this morning's funeral service, but hundreds of law enforcement officers, colleagues and friends gathered Thursday inside First Baptist of Sunnyvale for a memorial service for the pair, whose deaths, along with the murder of Kaufman County's Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse in January, horrified residents of the county east of Dallas. On Thursday, Governor Rick Perry announced his office was adding $100,000 to a reward -- now at $200,000 -- offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the killer or killers.
