You look at the Rangers’ 9-11 start through 20 games and mumble “meh”, same old Rangers. Right?
But, believe it or not, this could be a lot worse. Consider:
*Supposed ace Rich Harden is yet to make a quality start, issuing 18 walks in 17 innings.
*Taylor Teagarden is 1 for 27.
*Chris Davis and Jarrod Saltalamacchia are in the minors.
*Nelson Cruz is on the disabled list.
*Ian Kinsler is yet to have an at-bat.
*Scott Feldman has been so-so.
*Closer Frankie Francisco already has three losses.
*Last night’s lineup in the 4-2 win over the White Sox included names Texas surely wasn’t counting on coming out of Spring Training: Ryan Garko, Justin Smoak, Matt Treanor, Andres Blanco and Craig Gentry. What the what?!
*Oh yeah, and Tom Hicks still owns the team.
Hovering around .500, only 2.5 games out of first in the sluggish AL West.
Are the Rangers doomed by another slow start?
Or are they somehow weathering the storm?
