Since 2017, Texas Rangers announcer Eric Nadel’s Café Momentum Sunday Supper Series has remained one of the more renowned music projects in Dallas. It brings together a small group of diners and artists for an evening that will never be replicated again. The next one, and last one of this year, is on Sunday, Aug. 10.
Café Momentum has been around in Dallas for 10 years now. The restaurant and its nonprofit are the vision of James Beard-recognized Chad Houser; his team employs and transforms the lives of young men and women who have been affected by the juvenile justice system.
The event, which Nadel co-founded with Houser, pairs dinner with a musical artist. Local talent like Damoyee and Mitchell Ferguson have headlined in years past. The Funky Knuckles fit perfectly into the series’ canon, bringing their signature groovy jazz sound to every stage since their debut album, As Of Lately, in 2012.
Their performance will be paired with a three-course dinner from chef Aaron Collins. The evening will begin with Café Momentum’s signature Ninny’s Salad, which adds fried okra to a standard spinach, tomato and green onion base, all topped with southern vinaigrette.
The second course will be a smoked pork tenderloin with grilled vegetables and a number of unique garnishes, including peach relish, salsa verde, toasted pistachio and ricotta. The evening will conclude with a peach and mango calfoutis as The Funky Knuckles finish their set.
Tickets to the final Sunday Supper Series of the year are available online, with the event set to run from 5-7 p.m. All ticket sales and proceeds from Sunday Supper directly support Café Momentum’s mission to empower justice-involved youth through mentorship, education and workforce training.
Can't make it? Café Momentum is open Thursday through Saturday, and we highly recommend the New York Strip.
