Comfort food icon Norma's Cafe is celebrating Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day on Oct. 23 by selling their award-winning dish for $1.85 (plus tax) — the price of the plate when the cafe got its start.
The diner runs this deal periodically for certain events and holidays, and the last one was Norma's 68th birthday in July. After 5,792 plates of chicken fried steak, they raised $12,537.45 for Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Dallas.
This time, they're celebrating the hearty dish and partnering with Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. Their efforts have helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 43% since 1989.
“At Susan G. Komen we are committed to helping improve the lives of people in the communities where we live and work,” said Sofia Olivarez, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen North Texas. “Through your donation, we are able to help support individuals in our community who are facing breast cancer. The fight against breast cancer needs all of us.”
All proceeds from the promotion will be donated to Susan G. Komen.
Kurt Metzger, VP of Operations for Norma’s Cafe, says “We’re so proud to partner with Susan G. Komen for the second year in a row and do our part to support and help raise awareness for breast cancer research."
Norma's created Chicken Fried Steak Day over a decade ago with the Texas House of Representatives and the city of Dallas.
Norma's has five full-service locations (North Dallas, Frisco, Park Lane, Plano, and the original on Davis Street in Oak Cliff). All of them will offer the one-day special for dine-in customers on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Norma’s to-go location in Garland will have the $1.85 promotion for walk-up/pick-up service.
