First, it was Portillo's. Now it's White Castle. The massive shopping hub, called Grandscape north of Dallas proper, is bringing more out-of-town eats to the state.
The Dallas Morning News teased yesterday and confirmed this morning that the oldest burger joint in America is ready to open a new restaurant, the first in Texas, this summer. The company is holding a press conference at 10:30 a.m. and we will update this article when we have more information.
White Castle is located primarily in the Midwest and Northeast U.S., with scant places in the South. There are 345 locations, with a higher concentration in Ohio, Indiana and New York.
White Castle opened about two decades before McDonald's and serves up 100% all-beef square patties on small square buns. The original 1921 Slider comes with caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and pickles. Sliders go for about $1.25 each. So you can — and should — buy them by the dozen. The restaurant also recently introduced chicken sandwiches to the menu. Ten come in a case of burgers, and that feels like the way to go.
We have a friend who would go at the "end of a solid Friday night and order two of everything off the left side of the menu."
Feels like a solid game plan.
