Boogie's Moves In Where The Whippersnapper Once Partied, With More Shimmer and Less Spill

The Whippersnapper mopped its sticky floors for the last time and will reopen as Boogie's later this year.

After nine years and many cease and desist letters, the Whippersnapper on Henderson closed for good on Saturday, May 3. The mischievous bar was known for hosting some of the best pop-up spoof experiences in Dallas.

One weekend, The Drunken Clam. Blink, and the Family Guy hangout was turned into Barbie's Dream House. It was a spectacle in Henderson's drinking scene because you never really knew what owners Brandon Hays and Phil Schanbaum had up their sleeves.

This time, they shocked us all by announcing the bar's closure and swift replacement all within the same week. By the end of the year, the old Whip space will be reimagined as Boogie's, a polished cocktail lounge.

For this bar, the only transformation happening will be at 10 p.m., when the venue transitions from relaxed lo-fi vibes to a high-energy underground house music venue. Codie Binion, aka CBSMOOVE, is bringing his years in Dallas' nightlife and music scene to put the icing on this metaphorical cake.

“We believe Boogie's is the next evolution of this space,” said Hays and Schanbaum of This and That Hospitality. “By combining our passion for hospitality with Codie’s expertise in music, we’re creating something that’s a little wild, a little sophisticated, and a lot of fun. It’s a venue where guests can enjoy great drinks, but also lose themselves in the music.”

Boogie's transformation will be keeping the pace with the development happening on Henderson Avenue.

Hays told the Dallas Morning News that they were moving on after a nearly decade-long run because the neighborhood is changing.

Across the street, what's called a "renaissance of Henderson Avenue" broke ground in the fall of 2024. Come fall 2026, the 161,000 square-foot area between Glencoe Street and McMillan Avenue will go from vacant to shiny new mixed-use development that will have office spaces, restaurants and retail brands.

In other words, the complete opposite of The Whip's sticky floors and rambunctious atmosphere. The neighborhood is changing, and Boogie's is opening to keep the pace.

Another rendering of Boogie's dancefloor. There's potential for another bar in the corner and the DJ booth getting moved.
This and That Hospitality
This and That Hospitality is the group behind other iconic venues like Tiny Victories, Ferris Wheelers and Double D’s. The space is in good hands, but will now create this generation's version of "I remember when that was The Whip".

With the help of CBSMOOVE, the bar will also be a space for those who appreciate high-quality sounds and a fun night out. They're bringing in a 4-point Fulcrum sound system and a hi-fi DJ mixer. While we enjoy crisp audio that makes us feel like we just cleaned our ears, we have no idea what this means, but it sounds good.

Boogie's will open at 1806 McMillan Ave. and is expected to open in later this year.
