Another Deep Ellum Staple Announces Immediate Closure

Deep Ellum has had a busy summer, and a lot of it hasn't been good news.

STIRR had a good run. The double-decker restaurant and bar in Deep Ellum at the corner of Main and Crowdus (with the Stevie Ray Vaughan mural on the side) announced on Facebook this week that it is closing:

"After nearly 10 years of rooftop sunsets, weekend brunches, late nights, and unforgettable celebrations, we’ve made the difficult decision to officially close the doors to STIRR Dallas."

This spot is significant because this was Dallas-based Milkshake Concept's first restaurant, "the one that launched our journey in hospitality," reads the post. The restaurant's other location in Addison is still open.

Milkshake has gone on to open a bevy of restaurants, including the very popular Vidorra, which has a location in Deep Ellum and Addison. The group's other spots include The Finch, Saaya and Serious Pizza with locations from Addison to Grand Prairie (and a couple in Nashville).

The post explains that with their 10-year lease coming to an end, they felt it was the right time to close.

Many on Facebook asked for one last chance to bid farewell, but unfortunately, the space is already closed. Other comments echo what we've been reporting lately: Deep Ellum is going through some major changes, including the abrupt closures (and reopening) of Rodeo Dallas by landlords.

We also reported recently that NIWA closed.

But we still love Deep Ellum, and outside of late-night incidents, some of our favorite bars and restaurants are in Deep Ellum. Plus, a great new restaurant and bar, Plama and Ghost Donkey, recently opened.
