Yelp listens. Proof? OK. Well, they've parsed through every word ever written on the massive food engine and have come up with a list of the Top 100 Date Night restaurants in the country. Two of which happen to be in the Dallas area.
We have our own list of the most romantic restaurants in Dallas, but also wanted to see what floated to the top of their engine.
For this list, Yelp looked at restaurants with a large concentration of phrases like "date night," "romantic," and "anniversary." They ranked those using a number of factors including volume and mentions of those keywords.
In terms of what diners look for when it comes to a great date-night restaurant, an intimate atmosphere with a romantic ambiance is key. As for fare, Italian food is the most romantic, and we're pretty sure that's based on the spaghetti scene in Lady and the Tramp. Classic. Diners also want some tokens of affection when out with their boo (or boos, we're not here to judge). Free Champagne and notes written in chocolate sauce add to the vibe.
Intero Restaurant in Austin is third on the list. This white tablecloth spot with a minimalist wooden decor serves farm-to-table Italian fare and has artisan chocolates made in-house.
Closer to home, Saviano's Italian Kitchen in Euless is a family restaurant serving classic Italian fare. They also make their own limoncello in-house, which has us pondering a reservation. This restaurant has roots in the village of Saviano, Italy, whence the family hails. The Euless spot opened in the early '90s and has been a neighborhood favorite since, serving dishes like penne alla vodka, lobster ravioli and a house favorite, Wicky Chicken Riggis: grilled chicken with red bell pepper, purple onion, jalapeños and a spicy cream tomato sauce.
We're suckers for a good happy hour: Saviano's runs 3 to 6 p.m., Monday – Thursday, offering $5 house cabernet and chardonnay, $4.50 domestic beer and $7 Italian bites.
Bowen House is also on the list, which is one of our favorite bars in Dallas. It also has a great kitchen. Bowen House is a Dallas landmark; it's an old house (put that in Jeopardy!) with cozy upscale charm.
No lie, they have a drink called the Lady and the Tramp Stamp. The small but mighty food menu has seven appetizers and mains each, from foie gras and steak tartare to a house club, cacio e pepe and a burger. There are two big main dishes: sea bass and a steak special. Pretty simple in terms of the dinner menu, but the drink menu is full and replete.
