Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.

I’m a big fan of the rice-less sushi roll. It cuts out the middle man and yields a roll that’s chock full of the stuff we all really want: fresh raw seafood and crisp vegetables. There are a few casual sushi spots serving up excellent rice-free rolls, like the Zen roll (tuna wrapped in cucumber) at Zen Sushi in Bishop Arts, and this sweet little roll of fresh flavors, the Stripe T roll at Deep Sushi.

Crab, fresh salmon, smelt egg and ginger are wrapped in cucumber, and the resulting roll is a little fatty, a little creamy, has a little bite from the ginger and is perfectly cooling, thanks to crisp cucumber. There may be no better roll out there to eat during the oppressively hot Dallas summer.
