To be perfectly honest, we’d never heard of Arlington’s Mr. Kitty before catching him at the House of Blues on Tuesday night, where he put on an entertaining, nearly hour-long opening set for Crystal Castles.
But it’s safe to say that he piqued our interest, what with his brash behavior, entertaining beats and interesting cover of Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone.” So we got in touch with him yesterday and got to know him a little better.
Just 18 years old, Mr. Kitty’s real name is Forrest Carney, and he’s been making music for seven years now under the name of Mr. Kitty. He’s been productive over that time, too: The singer, songwriter and producer has numerous tracks out, all of which are available for download off the musician’s Bandcamp page. Be warned, though: There’s a lot of material there–some 28 albums, in fact.
And, despite having had his good friend Tyler Tipp on stage with him for the entirety of Tuesday night’s performance, Mr. Kitty is a solo-project.
“He’s a friend of mine from Houston,” Forrest says of his on-stage accomplice. “He has amazing stage presence and an awesome voice. I needed someone that could keep up with me during the performance, so I asked to play with me.”

As far as other performances, Carney says he’s played a few solo shows here
in town before Tuesday’s HOB gig: “[I’ve played] numerous times at Fat
Daddy’s Sound Shack, The Aardvark, and various coffee shops for
open mic performances.”
He also says he’s played several house parties, but it’s safe to say
that Tuesday’s Crystal Castles gig is his biggest to date by far.
For now, Carney doesn’t have any future shows lined up; but his plans
for the rest of 2010 are big: He’ll be releasing a remix album, another
LP and a trip to Boston where he’ll partake in some touring with
friends.
“I want to do everything,” he says. “But I can only take it one step at a time.”
