Wait. This is awesome.
We just stumbled across Craig James’ new U.S. Senate campaign ad. His campaign manager, who also moonlights as his daughter, is interviewing him, asking if people in West Texas will hate him for his role in the Texas Tech football fiasco that led to head coach Mike Leach’s firing.
You probably remember, but in case you don’t, during the 2009 season, James’ son Adam was a football player for Leach who got a concussion and subsequently ended up taking cell phone pictures of himself in a closet. Craig James said that Leach put his son in the closet, which led to the coach’s suspension and eventual firing.
“You can’t do what Mike Leach did to our son and get away with it,” James says in the ad. “Not in the United States of America.”
God bless us! Unfortunately, it turns out Adam probably put himself in the closet, and later said it was kind of funny. It also turns out Adam kind of sucked that season, a fact that was not was not conducive to Adam getting a lot of playing time. Craig wanted to see his son play, understandably, though Leach, as a college athletic coach, was in the business of winning. Ergo, there was no way in hell Adam was going to see consistent time on the field, since it turns out sucking is not conducive to getting a lot of wins, either. We can figure out the rest.
Anyway, to answer the question: Yes, Mr. James. It’s probable that people in West Texas, and elsewhere, hate you. So much so, in fact, that they’re making a movie about you. You might’ve heard of it. It’s called Friday Night Lights.
