This week, the city of Dallas is pushing — hard — its Reverse 911 Emergency Notification System, which thus far has been used twice to notify folks of, um, an emergency (the most recent event necessitating the calls was the June 11 flooding near the Trinity River in West Dallas). On Monday, the city council’s Public Safety Committee received a briefing on the program, which is funded with a Homeland Security Grand and which the council OK’d back in October 2007. And the city’s Web site today features a front-page heads-up about Reverse 911, which you’ll have to register for if you want to receive warnings on your cell phone, as the system’s set up to only call listed and unlisted numbers of Dallas residents in the path … of danger!
