Just two years ago, when Brooklyn-based dance-punk duo Matt & Kim stopped through town, they did so with a gig at Fort Worth DIY space 1919 Hemphill. Last year, when the band returned, it did so with a gig at the House of Blues’ Cambridge Room. And, this weekend, when the band stops through town once more–the success of its ’09 album, Grand, still looming its to-be-released-in-November disc, Sidewalks, about to blow–the band will be performing in the House of Blues’ main room.
So, yes, make no mistake, Matt & Kim’s rise in the past few years hasn’t just been exponential; rather, it’s still ongoing. And the band’s had a powerful effect on at least one local artist of note: Erykah Badu openly acknowledged that the duo’s nude stunt in Times Square for the above clip, “Lessons Learned,” was the inspiration for her own controversial “Window Seat” video.
Gotta figure the band will make mention of much tomorrow night when it places the House of Blues en route to its Austin City Limits performance this weekend, right? Well, you can find out for yourself firsthand: The folks at Live Nation, who are bringing this show to Dallas, have been kind enough to pass along two free pairs of tickets to the performance. Want one of them? Find out how to win your free tickets after the jump.
Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners!
