Yesterday, shortly before the Dallas Independent School District officially announced it’s rehiring 57 of the teachers laid off two weeks ago, school board trustee Carla Ranger yet again laid into the district and its leadership. As in: “It is hard to do the right thing when the wrong people are in charge.” This came five days after the District 6 trustee lambasted the school board, and especially board president Jack Lowe, for failing to even consider a rigorous ethics policy.
She also writes about Texas Education Agency Commissioner Robert Scott’s visit to 3700 Ross Avenue on Friday, when he suggested the state hasn’t ruled out intervening in the district’s affairs. From the sound of it, Ranger would welcome the assist: “We have a very serious mis-management problem. Still, the Dallas ISD Trustees hold no one accountable. The buck doesn’t stop — it dances. That happens when the wrong people are in charge and personal agendas are more important than public trust.” –Robert Wilonsky
