The Social House (2708 Routh S.) has opened a second restaurant in the old Arcodoro-Pomodoro space in Uptown. The Social House got its start in the West Village about four years ago, then in 2011 moved north to Addison into much bigger digs and tweaked their concept and focused more on a from-scratch cooking with a menu created by chef Brian Olenjack of Reata in Fort Worth and Olenjack’s Grill in Arlington.
The new Social House in Uptown is in an old two-story house with fireplaces to warm your chilly toes during this (hopefully) last visit from winter. There are also two big patios soaked in sunshine.
The menu has a Southern focus with dishes such as Texas shrimp and grits, chicken-fried oysters, smoked chicken wings. And when the food isn’t Southern, it’s from other places: like Ireland (Irish nachos — they love nachos in Ireland) and Buffalo fried calamari fries (from the land where those came from). With about 75 items on the menu, there’s a lot of representation. There’s also a brick-oven pizza plus fancy house-made condiments like Sriracha ketchup.
In more evidence that the tap and wall market is booming, there are more than 100 beers on the tap wall with many local and others that are not local — because we can drink beer from here or anywhere else. The Social House promises it will always be served at a crisp 32 degrees.

The Social House is open from 4 p.m to 2 a.m. every day — and lunch (or brunch) on Saturday and Sunday. Easter Sunday brunch starts at 10 a.m. with $2 bloody marys and $9.95 bottomless mimosas, just like every Sunday meal at grandma’s house.
