"I put my hand up on your hip, when I dip, you dip, we dip." What even is summer without H-E-B dips?

With summer approaching, we decided to take stock of H-E-B’s dips, of which there are many. And since the Texas-based grocer is completing a ring around Dallas (with one store coming to Dallas in 2026), no matter which direction you’re headed for a trip to a park, lake, beach or casino, it’s easy to hop into a store to load up on dips.

Below we’ve ranked our favorite dips, based on experience, customer data (stock on shelves) and a taste test.

Of course, the best is saved for last. Scroll to the bottom to see our favorite dip.

10. Jalapeno Ranch Dip and Spread

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.

We tried two dips from the Fresh Cravings line. While the cream cheese base is rich, it’s also just a wee bit gelatinous and weird, hence its spot at the bottom of the stack here. The Jalapeno Ranch has a nice kick from the peppers and the ranch seasonings make up for the texture issues. The Jalapeno Pineapple dip confused our tastebuds; the base is too sweet for a savory dip.

The Fresh Cravings dips have a particular texture we’re not crazy about, but one is still pretty good.

9. Strawberry Cheesecake Dip

Have you heard of strawberry cheesecake dip? Well, get excited. But first, grab a package of thin chocolate cookies from the cookie aisle, dip them in this rich cream cheese-based elixir and thank us later. We hear this also goes well with fruit, but can’t vouch for that.

8. Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

The extra creamy Roasted Red Pepper Hummus at H-E-B gets some demerits for being so healthy. Otherwise, chop up some vegetables or add this slightly piquant and creamy hummus as a side to your summer Mediterranean bowl and you’re set.

The roasted red pepper hummus at H-E-B is better than it has any business being.

7. Post Oak Smoked Pimento Cheese

Not to spoil things, but we really like our pimento cheese with jalapenos. If the store is out (ugh, it happens), you can make do with the smokier option, which has a slight smokiness. Here, the cheese comes in a thicker blend than the pimento.

6. Rotisserie Chicken Salad

Rotisserie chicken marries bits of celery with a nice dousing of spices to give depth to this classic summertime poolside dip. It’s basic and addictive.

5. Cranberry Pecan Turkey Salad

There are several variations of chicken and turkey salads at H-E-B, all with distinct flavors and avid fan bases. We like the tart sweetness of the cranberries with chunks of pecans.

4. Jalapeno Artichoke

The popularity of this sleeper hit is best demonstrated by the empty shelves in the photo below. Ruffles kill here and it’ll be gone before you know it.

See how this section is cleared out. This is how you know it’s an essential dip.

3. Tarragon Chicken Salad

The tarragon chicken salad has chunks of chicken, celery, pecans, grapes, a hint of tarragon, and a “creamy dressing.” Put it on a sandwich, eat it with crackers, or whatever else you can think of. It’s a multi-purpose summer staple.

2. Brisket Queso

This is a real party favorite. People are amazed that such a product exists in such an easy-to-use container that can be just popped in the oven and melted (or poured into a big coffee mug and microwaved at the office in a pinch). Simply add your liquid of choice (beer, milk, water or broth), heat and serve. This brisket adds a salty smokiness to this quintessential Texas staple. You might think you want to eat the whole container, but from experience, a little goes a long way here.

It works in a mug, too.

1. Jalapeno Pimento Cheese

There is one queen dip at H-E-B, and it is the Jalapeno Pimento Cheese. It screams summer time and sand between your toes. Don’t even think about going over that bridge to Gavleston without this packed in a cooler. Thinly shredded white and cheddar cheese are held together with light mayo. Diced pimentos and jalapenos are dispersed liberally throughout. Get extra-thick chips to scoop this out, or just use a spoon.
