Earlier this year, we did a round-up of every restaurant and bar in Deep Ellum that has closed since 2020. We counted up more than 30 (but missed a few, according to comments. Thanks). And the list keeps growing.

Elm St. Saloon posted on Facebook that, after five years, the bar will be closing at the end of the month.

“For 5 incredible years these walls have held countless memories, laughter and love. It was truly our pleasure in serving the neighborhood. It has been an absolute honor to be part of the Deep Ellum community.”

The bar will be closing for good on Nov. 30 and invites anyone who has had a “beer and a smile or a hug and a shot” to come out to celebrate the good times.

Deep Ellum has always been the difficult child of Dallas neighborhoods. Over the decades, it has fluctuated between boom and bust, as the patrons who enjoy live music age out of the venues and younger generations look for a different vibe. This summer was particularly bad for the area; there were multiple shootings and fatalities. Restaurant and bar owners, as well as landlords, held emergency meetings this summer to address issues. Rodeo Dallas was called out as the center of a lot of chaos and was shuttered in August. It now awaits a spring court date to determine its fate.

Fall always brings calmer times to Deep Ellum.

The party continues, however. This Saturday, Nov. 22, is the Deep Ellum Block Party, a neighborhood-wide music festival. Mothership and Joshua Ray Walker are headlining the event. The all-day and night party is free. Stop by Elm St. Saloon and have one for old times.

Elm Street Saloon, 2708 Elm St. Open daily from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Sundays from 4 p.m to 2 a.m.
