How does one wrap up a week of conservative hobnobbing in Grapevine? For Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., leader of the Make America Healthy Again campaign, it’s with slabs of smoked American meat.
Last week, the Conservative Political Action Conference met for its annual Texas convention at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine. Kennedy attended the event to support the Republican Party’s agenda. According to Ben Blanchet at Huffpost, Kennedy praised Trump’s “encyclopedic, molecular knowledge” on a “wide range of very, very eclectic interests.”
Then, he got hungry.
The secretary, who is trying to upend our health care system, went to the Original Roy Hutchins in Trophy Club (not to be confused with the Hutchins Barbeque in Frisco and McKinney — they’re related but also not really. The two branches of the family have a long-standing feud).
The Original Roy Hutchins in Trophy Club opened in 2023 and recently opened a new restaurant in Arlington near AT&T Stadium, just east of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen near Interstate 30.
The restaurant posted a photo of Kennedy slicing brisket (awkwardly). The comments were a mix of yucks and yums. Our favorite, though, is from tracigonz, “Since when did bear get added to the menu?” Good questions, Traci. Though Jarded Lawson’s comment also forced a sad giggle: “How is he somehow not qualified for this job either?”
