Nick & Sam’s Grill: a casual spin-off of Nick & Sam’s Steakhouse recently opened in Uptown. It replaced Strong’s Everyday Tavern at 2816 Fairmount St.

Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen: casual, creative and affordable cuisine, located at 6130 Luther Lane, from the chef behind Abacus and Jasper’s. Rathbun won over the media with a free, 30-item meal. His menu of Texas Gulf Blue Crab Gratin, “DP” Mopped Rotisserie Chicken and such appears as promising as his marketing skills.

Chef’s Room at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek: closed February 26 after losing its main chef. The rest of the restaurant remains open, of course.

Franki’s Li’l Europe at Casa Linda Plaza–former Dallas Observer “Best Restaurant” runner-up–closed early last month.
