It’s a holiday debate as old as, well, the Die Hard film franchise.

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie or isn’t it?

Judging by a new video posted to the city of Garland’s social media channels, it appears we know where Mayor Scott LeMay stands on the matter.

Sporting a dingy white tank top and carrying a lit Zippo lighter as he crawls on his elbows through a tunnel, LeMay opens the 37-second clip by gamely recreating the grumpiness of one John McClane, as played by Bruce Willis in the 1988 action blockbuster.

The camera reveals that LeMay is shimmying through an ersatz tunnel made of cardboard Home Depot boxes, and not a ventilation duct. When a city hall colleague enters the office, the mayor is called out for chosing the Die Hard theme for the city’s holiday video.

“Remember when we said ‘no Die Hard‘?” she asks.

“But it’s a Christmas movie, Courtney, I’m tellin’ ya,” Le May replies rather indignantly.

After shooing away his Die Hard-hating colleague, the mayor, still holding his lit Zippo and leaning on his elbows in the faux-ventilation duct, ends the video fittingly with “From all of us at the city of Garland, we want to wish you happy holidays and an awesome 2025, and yippee ki yay, mother…” before he’s interrupted by the joyous sounds of the Christmas classic “Let it Snow.”

The video has been getting laughs across the internet, well beyond Garland’s borders, thanks to Reddit, Not The Bee and other news sites that fave brought attention to it.

We’ll be curious to see whether this hard stance will affect the three-term mayor’s support moving forward.
