There is nothing better than consuming copious amounts of alcohol while being really, really high. And no, that doesn't mean on drugs, you deviants, that means sitting on a roof with a beautiful view of the Dallas skyline. Now that the weather will be beautiful for at least the next few months, it's time to plop your ass down in a chair and drink with a view.
Put on your best floppy hat, and soak up this year's first weekend of great weather on one of these ten awesome rooftops in Dallas.
HG Sply Co (above) The food here is mostly healthy, but that shouldn't discourage you from checking out the rooftop patio at HG Sply Co. It has a stunning view of Lower Greenville and Downtown and plenty of great cocktails. The patio table seating is great for groups, and covered(ish) areas will help protect you from the blinding sun.
The Joule Poule It's starting to get warm enough to swim, and if you know anyone rich enough to get a hotel room at The Joule, their rooftop infinity pool is perfect for soaking up rays and plenty of adult beverages. There's a convenient bar upstairs, and you can even order snacks to help sober up for those times when you're feeling a little too drunk to look over the edge.
The Quarter Bar The rooftop patio at The Quarter Bar in Uptown generally makes everyone's list of favorites, but don't let its popularity discourage you. Brunch is great, but it's even better when you've got the privilege of drinking with breakfast and sitting on a cozy rooftop patio. The patio fills up very quickly on the weekends, so get there early if you don't want to elbow through the crowds while you eat your waffles.
The Grapevine Everything about The Grapevine is awesome. Its worn-out look, divey charm, and always-strong drinks notwithstanding, the patio here is one of the best places in town to do a little eavesdropping while you nurse a few martinis. It may not have the sheen of some of these fancier roofs, but it will certainly get the job done when you're a few days away from payday and need something better than Netflix to do.
The Green Room The Green Room has already established itself as Deep Ellum's spot for legit late night grub, but if you haven't chilled out on that patio late at night with a few drinks, you're missing out on the gastropub's best offering. Order up a shitload of small plates and soak up all that booze in the rooftop's fresh air before you accidentally end up proposing marriage to your Uber driver.
Stackhouse If you're looking for a great view of Downtown, Stackhouse is the obvious choice. Outside of the delicious burgers and crispy fries, views of Downtown's most iconic buildings are equally good. At sunset, the roof is a particularly beautiful sight, especially if you've had a few too many of those cheap-ass beers.
Nora Lower Greenville has no shortage of great patios, but to leave Nora off this list would be an oversight. It's fancier than most of the pubs and restaurants in the area, making it a great spot to do a little canoodling with a first date. The Afghan food is also excellent, and provides a significantly more global culinary experience than you can have on any of the city's other rooftops.
Round-Up Saloon There isn't any food at Round-Up Saloon, but there are plenty of drinks, and a great rooftop to consume them on. You'll probably have to elbow past a few groups of people to find a prime spot, but it's a great place to check out what's happening on the rest of Cedar Springs. Maybe you'll see a really great fight or flip off the gross anti-gay protesters who sometimes gather on the street, but at the very least, you'll have one hell of a good time. And, you might very well see Lady Gaga there.
Tei-An Once you've stuffed yourself with sashimi, head up to the roof at this One Arts Plaza restaurant to be surrounded by downtown at night while you enjoy a few cocktails that are just as worthy of the sushi served downstairs. The people-watching here is interesting, especially if you're trying to see how the One Percent lives. Maybe if you hide really well after closing, you can stick around and have an after-hours sleepover under the stars.
Urban Crust Should you find yourself in Plano, you can still end up on a great rooftop. Urban Crust already has solid pizza and decent cocktails — throwing a rooftop with a 30-foot long frozen bar into the mix almost seems extraneous. This patio isn't huge by any means, and quickly becomes crowded when the restaurant is busy, but it's still worth a stop before it gets too hot to be outside.
