It's with a heavy heart we made the decision to close our doors. The complex is dying and we've lost four other businesses prior to us making our decision to close. And now we’ve become the fifth one to leave. The residential and commercial complex on the west side of Dallas has about a dozen retail businesses and is flanked by an apartment building. It opened in 2013, and while it has a good roster of tenants, it has never been overrun with patrons.
The complex has a lot going for it as the last exit before committing to downtown traffic with easy-in-and-out access. I'm probably there once a month. And, it's one of the few places in the city with bocce ball courts. My friends and I would meet there, grab a mix of dinners and play bocce during the pandemic.
Sylvan Avenue Tavern, which is a sister spot to Bryan Street Tavern in East Dallas, was perched atop the commercial side of the property in what was originally a yoga studio, which gave great vibes. The sports bar had a better-than-average menu with burgers, pizzas and a lovely hummus spread. It might have been a bit more hidden, being up on the third floor, but there were large signs on the sides of the building.
The social post calls out a lack of support from the property owners as the reason they had to "call it a day."
Alas, they closed the doors for the last time on Saturday, Nov. 2. But, as one door closes another opens: The owners announced the opening of Fate Village Tavern in Fate, Texas, between Rockwall and Royse City. Go see 'em.
Other Closings at Sylvan Thirty
Three other food and beverage spots have closed in the complex over the past year. Jettison, a high-end cocktail bar and speakeasy, posted a month ago that after 8 years, "It's time for a rest."
Shayna's Place, a breakfast and lunch fast-casual restaurant that offered employment to people with disabilities, closed over the summer.
Cooper's Meat Market and Steakhouse closed during the summer as well.
There are still other restaurants open in the space, including Cox Farms Market, Tacodeli, Banh Mi Station, Whisk Crepes, the amazing TEN Ramen, Houndstooth Coffee and the Italian market and restaurant, CiboDivino.
