Dallas Observer Music Awards

Come to the Dallas Observer Music Awards Ceremony and Join the 27 Club

Halloween is over, but so what? Pull those costumes back out and get ready to party again next month because the Dallas Observer Music Awards are coming to The Bomb Factory on Wednesday, December 9. You might want to leave your white lighters at home, though, because the theme for this year's ceremony will be the 27 Club.

You may be wondering what a "27 Club" is — in which case, you can leave now because you're not cool enough to be reading this — and what the hell a party of that sort would look like. Well, the 27 Club is that most rock 'n' roll of clubs: one consisting of dead people. Specifically, dead people who all died at the age of 27 — an age that has claimed an unusually high number of high-profile musicians. Folks including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse are counted in the ranks, among many others.

It being the 27th year of the DOMAs, we had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to throw a party like this. So we're going to make it count, inviting bands to play covers of popular songs from members of the 27 Club and, seeing how we had so much fun dressing up for prom last year, encouraging all attendees to dress up as their favorite rock stars. There will be prizes for those with the best costumes, as well as other special plans to be announced in the coming weeks. Let's just say we'll be rolling out the red carpet, as is fitting for a party at The Bomb Factory.

Is it a little bit morbid? Whatever. Is it tasteless? Never. Besides, we've been accused of worse. More important, it should be a hell of a good time. Just make sure you don't fall asleep on your back at the end of the night. (Okay, maybe that was a little tasteless.)

In the meantime, voting for the DOMAs is still underway at 2015musicawardspoll.dallasobserver.com and will remain open until midnight on Friday, December 4, the night before the DOMA showcase. While the ceremony on the 9th will be free to enter, tickets start at $10 for the showcase and are on sale at ticketfly.com. VIP tickets will also be available for those seeking the deluxe treatment at the DOMA showcase. VIP includes access to all participating venues, three free drink tickets at the private bar, catered buffet and a free DOMA T-shirt.

All guests must be 21 years of age with a valid I.D. to attend the showcase and 18 years of age to attend the ceremony.
