    Dallas Observer has an immediate opening for a full-time news writer to continue our record of hard-hitting reporting. We’re looking for a journalist with a solid news background to cover developing stories through the week and find news of interest to our educated urban readership. Staff writers work under the guidance of experienced editors in a small but scrappy newsroom with a history of excellence, including numerous national and regional reporting awards.

    We value ambitious reporting, well-crafted prose, an engaging voice and savvy use of social media. Ideal candidates will have the proven ability to report and write well in diverse areas, such as politics, public health, business, environmental issues, law and government. Bilingual fluency (Spanish and English) a plus.

  • Event Marketing Manager

    Dallas | Marketing
    The Event Marketing Manager will participate in the strategy, development and execution of Voice Events & Entertainment’s growing portfolio of signature events – including national and regional events – with a focus on attendee experience, business impact and ROI.

    This position will have end-to-end responsibility for Identifying, managing & executing ticket strategies, media plans and marketing initiatives for all events.

    The ideal candidate should have the ability to see the big picture while simultaneously maintaining an astute attention to detail and the ability to execute with excellence. In addition to extensive event marketing experience, this position requires excellent project management and strong communication and organizational skills.

    Responsibilities:
    · Work closely with internal stakeholders to define and understand each event’s unique goals and objectives.
    · Support the overall strategic event plan, themes and experience.
    · Collaborate with key stakeholders across company departments.
    · Define event metrics and performance targets and connect to business results.
    · Determine fiscal requirements and preparation of budgetary recommendations, manage budget.
    · Meet and/or exceed revenue targets and drive customer advocacy
    · Coordinate with internal teams to secure event creative and content, including marketing assets, web and multimedia content.
    · Assist in development of experiential activations
    · Support sponsorship sales and leverage opportunities to their full potential
    · Develop and manage media plans
    Requirements/Qualifications:
    · 5-7 years of experience in event marketing, management and development, preferably B2C.
    · Strong project management and organizational skills.
    · Excellent post-event reporting and analytics skills.
    · Ability to think creatively, be innovative, and deliver a “WOW” event experience.
    · Demonstrated ability to align strategies with tactics and manage/orchestrate team resources to a timeline/deadline.
    · Understanding of working within ticketing platforms.
    · Experience with implementing omni-channel marketing plans within traditional and digital marketing channels.
    · Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    · Strong leadership and management skills.
    · Exceptional program and budget management, negotiation, and organizational skills.
    · Experience in contract negotiation.
    · Proven track record of event planning.
    · Ability to work cross-functionally to reach common project goals.
    · Travel required.
    · BA/BS degree required.

    Assist the marketing department on a part-time Independent Contractor basis.

  • Multi Media Advertising Sales Executive

    Dallas | Sales
    We are seeking a smart, driven, and energetic individual looking for a career in media sales. The media industry is in an exciting state of change and Dallas Observer/VDigital Services is growing exponentially. As such, we need a highly ambitious media consultant with a desire to succeed and grow with us. We pride ourselves on leading the industry in ad performance, technology and, most of all, customer results.


    This person will be responsible for growing advertising revenues through the consultative sale of digital solutions including, digital display, SEO, PPC, paid media, social media, mobile, programmatic, IP targeting, e-mail, mobile advertising, website development, local services, weekly and annual print guides and signature events, with a primary responsibility of acquiring new clients. We continue to launch new products and initiatives so opportunities abound.



    Qualifications:

    • A proven track record in sales or similar field

First year account executives will earn a minimum of $73,000 - $80,000.
