Feeling like a little mellow, acoustic tunage before the assault of NX35 and SXSW? Opening Bell Coffee offers up a nice bill of singer/songwriters this evening with Kevin So and Emily White.

Hailing out of Boston, So actually toured the country in a cover band that would later see some of its members join Britney Spears' band. Luckily, it was around this time that So began listening to Bob Dylan. Since 1995, he's been a regular on the coffeehouse scene in Cambridge. Then, in 2000, So was busking in Austin and was discovered by a rep with The Agency Group. That discovery help So gain opening slots for the likes of  Joe Cocker, Billy Bragg, and Robben Ford. In 2003, he released the double-disc Leaving The Lights On, which still stands as his best overall album. Currently on tour to support his recently issued release Best Foot Forward, So is well worth a listen for folks who like the guitar picking clean and the lyrics sincere.

Opening tonight's show is Emily White. Her brand of folk gets its inspiration from White's home of Chicago. Desolate and desperate, songs such as "Secret Song " and "Mad Intuition" resonant with a clear-headed poignancy that should go over well in the sometimes chilly confines of Opening Bell.
