The unknown author of the email, titled “ Wrap up Event suggestion,” reportedly told Moon that as a “friend and admirer,” they “feel a responsibility for passing along a suggestion.”
“There were a few comments after, and at the [redacted] event, about dressing appropriately and representing [redacted],” the email read. “I know it’s fun to dress up, but we do have several fairly conservative donors and supporters … I know that we all wanna see the most positive and appropriate images on social media. So perhaps save the cute, low-cut dresses for another event?”
The author concluded the email by saying, “I’m so sorry to pass along these thoughts that I have heard, but I want to help you.”
Moon, an anesthesiologist and founder of the LeadHer Summit, posted the email and a picture of the dress she wore to the event: a calf-length, long-sleeve rainbow dress with an inch or so of visible cleavage. (Click on the arrow to the right in the Instagram post above to see it.)
Many of Moon's 826k Instagram followers responded in sympathetic anger, and some shared suggestions on how Moon should respond. While some crafted long, thoughtful responses, others said the best response is none at all.
One commenter evoked the film Legally Blonde: “You’re like the Elle Woods of the medical profession when it comes to fashion. I see nothing inappropriate with that. Were you expected to wear scrubs and a lab coat?”
Moon responded, “It was happy hour at a fashion house — not a 9 a.m. corporate board meeting.”
One commenter on TikTok quoted Grey's Anatomy: "I’m going to tell you like Christina Yang told Meredith: 'YOU are the sun.' They can put on sunglasses if you are to big and bright or perhaps go inside. NEVER dim your light or who you are EVER."
The Real Housewives of Dallas ran for five seasons starting in 2016. Moon joined the cast in 2020, bringing a large TikTok following (1.7 million) along with her medical degree, before the show was canceled a year later.
Moon's PR representatives declined our request for comment.
