Ten of This Weekend's Top Shows: Beach House, Fiona Apple, and More

Beach House
Beach House

Beach House
Friday, September 21, at Palladium Ballroom

The release of Beach House's fourth album, Bloom, has seen the Baltimore band become "Bon Iver famous." This show also serves as the 15th anniversary show for Spune Productions, who are bringing them to town.

The Cush, Spookeasy
Thursday, September 20, at AT&T Performing Arts Center

See our write-up here

Yells At Eels
Thursday, September 20, at The Common Table

It's not like getting into a Yells At Eels concert ever costs more than ten bucks, but this is a good chance to see the band for free on a nice Uptown patio, and choose from a wide selection of the Common Table's beers.

Lights All Night Lineup Release Party
Thursday, September 20, at Rio Room

The initial round of acts for December's Lights All Night party was announced yesterday. Tonight, everyone pops bottles with local LAN participants Play-N-Skillz.

Art, Beats + Lyrics
Thursday, September 20, at Palladium Ballroom
This free show promises work from emerging urban artists, Gentleman Jack whiskey and performances from Houston rap legend Scarface, Shock G of the Digital Underground and more.

Fantasia Barrino, Silk, Fulfill
Friday, September 21, at Fair Park Music Hall

Yeah, yeah, I know Fantasia Barrino is the headliner for this show, but the seventh grade version of me is most excited about opening act Silk.

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band
Friday, September 21, at Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge

In Fort Worth, the gritty, bluesy music of Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band will go over nicely on the Live Oak Music Hall stage.

Riot Fest w/ Rise Against, The Descendents & more
Saturday, September 22, at Gexa Energy Pavilion

In contrast with July's Vans Warped Tour, this is a punk festival to get excited about. The Descendents will be a good show, but don't wander too far from the Parade of Flesh stage, on which acts like Firewater, Yells At Eels and Power Trip will play.

Fiona Apple
Saturday, September 22, at WinStar Casino

This might be the show of the weekend. That is,
if she's not sitting in jail.

Ben Folds Five
Sunday, September 23, at Palladium Ballroom

Ben Folds Five was best during my senior year of high school, when I was much more mature than my underclassmen, yet the difficulties of choosing a college were always eased by "Brick." Wish it still worked.
