Last I saw, Barack Obama was still trying to decide whether he'd participate in the MSNBC debate scheduled for February 28 in Houston, in advance of the March 4 Texas primaries. Hillary Clinton wants four more debates before she and Obama go after Texas' 228 delegates; Obama said yesterday, "I'm sure we will accept at least one." He also pointed out that the Democratic presidential wanna-bes have already squared off some 18 times, though it appears there have actually been a few more Dem debates than that.

None of which is stopping the Clinton camp from going after the Illinois senator: This morning we received word of a 12:30 p.m. media conference call during which looooongtime Texas Land Commissioner and Bill Clinton bud Garry Mauro and former Houston city council member Carol Alvarado will "discuss why Barack Obama has refused an invitation by MSNBC/Greater Houston Partnership to debate Senator Clinton in Houston on February 28th." From now till March 4, every single day will be like Christmas. --Robert Wilonsky
