I would have made a better Italian. No doubt about it. I have total appreciation for my Hispanic culture and live safely distant from Farmers Branch, but the bottom line is Italians have better food. Despite the similarities between Mexican and Italian cuisine—lots of carbs, cheeses and fatty meats—I think I would prefer to enter the pearly gates of heaven from a heart attack proffered to me by a plate of multi-layered lasagna with a side of cheese-and-sausage-filled manicotti than an enchilada plate. Throw in a salad and garlic bread for good measure. I've placed the blame on my dad who, as a chef, introduced me to the wonders of pasta and Parmesan. Where's the tiramisu to alleviate my pain? It's definitely at Italia, the new festival in Addison that "celebrates all things Italian" (which also means live entertainment, language and cultural classes, bocce tourneys, soccer lessons with open courts, and even tourist information to help your trip planning to Italy). Mafia family-tree sessions don't seem to be on the roster. Italia begins 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at Addison Circle Park, 4970 Addison Circle Drive at Quorum.
