Austin is experiencing an identity shift. It’s still a music hub — you can’t shop for used tires without encountering an in-store Americana showcase — but the bigger story is what’s happening in the city’s comedy scene. Sketch troupes, improv street gangs and renegade stand-up acts are taking over, making it a talent hotbed and destination for national acts. One of Austin’s most treasured sketch troupes, STAG! Comedy, road trips to Dallas on Saturday for a special 7:30 p.m. show at Dallas Comedy House (2645 Commerce St.). It’s our city’s first chance to see the crew who frequently sell out large Austin venues like Alamo Drafthouse. Fresh off a successful visit to the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, STAG!’s newest revue is all buffed and polished, so you’ll get the best of the best. Need more creds? Fine. Several of STAG!’s cast moonlight with cinematic-spoof troupe Master Pancake, KOOP radio show-turned-podcast Mascot Wedding and comedy showcase Jazz Cigarette. Catch STAG! Saturday, and get tickets early at dallascomedyhouse.com, ’cause that place is tiny. Tickets range $10 to $12.
