Gay film festivals are the best. Oh wait, GLBTQI film festivals are the best, to be politically correct. Although, might I suggest to the community a more marketable, minimally syllabic identity? Just saying. Even after years of pseudo-acceptance by the community at large, "gay" is still a huge resource of celluloid potential that mainstream cinema taps into well after these small festival films have eked their way into sight. If they're not being made into embarrassing movies such as In and Out, then they are heavy-handed like Brokeback Mountain, which was still visually stunning. But most people never get the pleasure of catching queer cinema at its best—with outrageous campy humor, intense sex drive and biting political perspective. All that can be changed at Q Cinema's ninth annual Fort Worth Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival. You can find me in line for The Incredible Dyke, a lesbian Hulk knock-off with the tagline, "You won't like her when she's angry." The four-day, 30-plus-film event kicks off Thursday at the Rose Marine Theater, 1440 N. Main St. Festival passes will set you back $80, with individual tickets ranging from $8 to $10.
