Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

The second summer session of Girls Rock Dallas starts July 15, and during that week, girls ages 8 to 17 learn instruments, form a band, write a song and play a showcase. They’re also offered classes on body image, women in rock history and team building, a truly immersive experience. As they did last summer, GRD is throwing a pool party at the Fraternal Order of Eagles (8500 Arturo St.) on Saturday as a way to draw support to the cause and get like-minded folks in a summer mood. Starting at 4 p.m.Saturday, there will be performances from 5050 Blue, Under Rage and Red Liquorish, as well as water balloons, volleyball, food and Jell-O shots. All ages welcome, and it costs $7 to swim. Visit girlsrockdallas.org for more info.
