YouTuber-Turned-Pop Star Troye Sivan Lights Up Irving

Troye Sivan’s voice both in the studio and onstage is killer. The man is radiating with star power. Yes, he’s a successful YouTuber. Yes, he’s a gay icon. But above all, Sivan is a brilliant performer.

Sivan started The Bloom Tour on Friday night in Dallas at the Toyota Music Factory. There was record-breaking rainfall and many phones in the crowd lit up with flash flood alerts during the show. But the water didn’t stop a couple thousand from enjoying what really felt like a dance party hosted by Sivan.

“To everyone who waited in the rain today, I would die for you, I appreciate you, thank you so much," Sivan said during Friday night's show. "Tonight’s going to be like the best night of my life, so thank you so much for being in the show with me."

Sivan told the crowd he’s been able to spend the last week in Dallas, exploring the city when he wasn’t rehearsing. He loved the dog parks and even gave a shout-out to a coffee shop.

“Everyone here is A, so lovely; the food is so good, and I’m going to give a shout-out to a random coffee shop that I went to like three mornings in a row called Ascension," he said. "It’s so good. But really everybody has been so lovely and so accommodating and I couldn’t have chosen a better place to start this tour.”

Although the set could have been a bit more original and some of the breaks in between when Sivan disappeared to change locations on stage or to change clothes were a bit long and awkward, the show ran well for the first stop on the tour. And no matter what happens technically, Sivan could hold his own with just his vocals, dancing and genuine charm.

“I know I should, like, kind of keep to the mystique of showbiz; I should try to at least, but holy fuck, I just did my first-ever quick change and that shit is so hard and scary,” Sivan said. “I’m, like, still a little bit scared that I’m accidentally wearing my undies on the outside or something like that, I don’t know. But wasn’t it at least impressive like when I came up? Was it cool? It’s our first show; we’re still feeling things out, you know. I think we’ll keep it, though.”

One of the best things about the night was Sivan’s dancing. His stage presence is incredible, and his moves can captivate an audience. His dancing incites dancing.

Vocally, Sivan held his own the whole set and even sang half a song lying down on a couch.

“This is where I feel completely at home,” he said, though that was already clear.

But probably one of the biggest unexpected gems of the night was his backup singer, Dallas native Kaela Sinclair. There was absolutely no need to complain when “Dance to This” came on and the red-headed beauty took Ariana Grande’s duet part. Her gorgeous vocals filled in other parts throughout the night, and she was featured with several solo parts and intimate duets with Sivan. The whole band was killer, but some of Sinclair and Sivan’s harmonies were nothing less than jaw-dropping.

Sivan couldn’t help but laugh during his encore performance.

“I am so happy to be on tour again,” he said. “I love all of it. The glamour of lying to the audience saying you’re going to run off and that’s the end of the show. Everyone knows you’re coming back. So fun.”
